Simple Things

I wrote my thesis (on new media, fame and media democracy) what feels like ages ago.  Whenever I look over it, I’m actually surprised I wrote it and how much of it seems quite relevant and spot on in terms of what is happening with media today (pat on my back).  The concept that mainstream news and media is no longer in the hands of the elite, but is becoming rapidly democratized is made explicitly evident by VBS.TV (VICEs televisual component) presence on CNN.com.  It’s nothing new that blogging, citizen media and the whatnot have been steadily integrating into mainstream media, but VICE’s new role at CNN appears to be a more concrete change in the standard approach:

“The reports, which are produced solely by VICE, reflect a very transparent approach to journalism, where viewers are taken along on every step of the reporting process. We believe this unique reporting approach is worthy of sharing with our CNN.com readers.”

Anyways, I think this collaboration is pretty amazing. And also, if you ever get bored, VBS.TV is endless hours of mind-blowing entertainment.
